Know Your Constitution on Unilag 103.1Fm

THE PROGRAMME:

KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION on UNILAG 103.1 FM with Adeola Austin Oyinlade has contributed immensely to expanding the frontiers of liberty, human rights, democracy and happiness of ordinary citizens in Nigeria.

The radio programme is being received loud and very clear by radio listeners in Lagos, Nigeria. It is presented to Lagosians (18 million people) in simple language which is understandable to the ordinary man on the street.

KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION on UNILAG 103.1 FM is designed to ask people from all walks of life on the awareness of their rights as contained in the Constitution of Nigeria, 1999 as well as other laws currently in force in Nigeria.

MISSION:
To contribute immensely to expanding the frontiers of liberty, human rights, democracy and happiness of ordinary citizens in Nigeria. To empower Nigerians and Non-Nigerians alike on how to enforce their rights and to achieve Nigeria been de-listed from the list of Human rights violation countries.

IMPACT ON LISTENERS:

The programme has empowered Lagosian to make legal decisions on legal matters. Many Lagosians who had land issues for example with 'OMO ONILE' after free legal counsel on the programme can now boast of valid titles over plot of lands bought. It has been established on the programme that reliance only on receipts from the family that sell plots of land gives buyer 'equitable title' not 'Legal title' and makes such plots of land subject of court litigations and fraudulent extortion from sellers most especially when such plots of land are sold to more than a buyer. Whoever buy such land and perfect it first at ministry in charge of Land will have valid title at the expense of others. The programme has helped many Lagosian on how to do that and many have perfected their titles over land without any charge. They can no longer be embarrassed by OMO ONILE's without any fear of loosing their title over such plots of land.

The programme has created easy access to the Lagos state police incase of emergency and effective response from Lagos state police command to the yearning of Lagosians. When Lagosians were sending complaints on abuse of police power and authority by police officers on the show, Adeola invited the Lagos state Police commissioner ably represented by the Public Relation officer, Mr. Frank Mba live on the programme to speak on 'the constitutional power of the police and its duties' and he also allowed listeners to call in live to clarify issues and asked for on behalf of Lagosians direct phone contacts of all 8 police commandas in Lagos state which was disclosed to the public by Mr. Mba himself during the course of the interview so that people can have direct access to the police in case of emergency. The feedback so far from Lagos state police spokesman to the presenter and Lagosian announced on the show showed that many distressed calls were sent to the police and police were able to rise to such occasions either by apprehending robbers and armed robbers before they carried out their intentions.

LISTENERS PARTICIPATION:

In other to get feedback/opinion of Lagosian whom he educates about the Nigeria’s Constitution, Adeola was on the street on October 1 (Nigeria’s fiftieth Independence Anniversary day) to ask many listeners to air their opinion on constitutional issues that posed serious threat to the existence of Nigeria which we just celebrated her Golden Jubilee anniversary. Issues Like; Presidency zoning/rotation, INEC postponement of general elections to April, 2011 and National Assembly insistence that President Goodluck Jonathan’s assent is not needed before the 1999 constitution amended becomes operational. Surprisingly, some Lagosian aired their opinion and back up their assertions with the constitution.

Justice was done to the issues above and the reactions of listeners on the first Wednesday of October 6th October, 2010 by the Legal icon and International law expert, Professor Akin Oyebode as a guest on KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION on UNILAG 103.1 FM. He appraised the Nigeria’s nascent democracy from Constitutional perspective as we celebrated Nigeria at fifty on aforementioned issues and recommendations were made to the government and Nigerians at large to safeguard the existence of Nigeria and Democracy.

On constitutional crisis which ensued when Late president Umaru Yar' Adua wrote and gave Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN ultimatum to revert back to 20 local governments administration or face actions, it generated reactions and national debates. The programme encouraged listeners’ participation live on the programme. The resolution made on the programme was that Federal government should go to court if it felt Lagos state has contravened the 1999 constitution. Listeners have also participated on many issues on KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION on UNILAG 103.1 FM
